When a vampire asks Nick St. James to investigate his friend’s murder, the answer should have been easy, right? NO. Okay, not so easy. How do you say no to a friend like Felix?
Besides, with Thelma by his side, what could go wrong? She’s got that, umm … cute pink backpack of Voodoo magic. Of course it hurts that she manages to look good even when she accidentally conjures and gets possessed by a drunk loa. No, it won’t be at all distracting to have her along.
Since no good deed goes unpunished, a crazy man with starry eyes jumps out of the shadows at the victim’s apartment and pummels them. Their attacker doesn’t just beat them up but also infects them with some bad mojo that’s killing Thelma and making Nick angry … angrier.
If the trail to the suspect—the Green Man—is any indication, they’ll be killed before the poison finishes the job. The old gods are more dangerous than helpful. The Watchers—even the one who seems to have a brain—are always a hazard. And what’s with the all the minions? Who has minions anymore? Not to mention the rapid progression of the infection that quickly upgrades Nick’s condition to ‘blind-rage-filled.’
Why couldn’t Felix have just asked Nick to help him move?

After reading the first Sundancer novel (Demon Dance) in less than a couple of days, I immediately bought "Mind of the Beast" and set about reading it. These 2 novels are very well written - they're fast-paced, there's good character development, a nice sense of mystery and they really held my interest. There are some broad similarities to Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden (The Dresden Files series) - hero with magical powers (of some description), snarky humour, rebellion against authority figures, stays friends with people that others would call "baddies" (like the local vampire), willingness to keep throwing himself into harm's way for the innocent (or a girl that he cares for), gets the snot beaten out of him and keeps coming back for more. I like the Dresden Files and I like the Sundancer series - if you like a good urban fantasy that's fast-paced and full of action, then get into the Sundancer novels.

Mind of the Beast The Sundancer Mysteries Book 2 eBook Brian Freyermuth Juliet Freyermuth Reviews
I think this was better then demon dance. I could not stop reading it. This book answered questions from demon dance, and fleshed out Nick and Thelma and explained how they became the characters they are. I cannot wait until the next book and this one just came out.
like a voice in my head this story made the book hard to put down and now I want more.
excellent, can hardly wait for the next one
Worth reading. More of the sundancer background gets explained.
Awesome book. If you loved the first one, you will diffidently love the second one. It goes more into his back story and how he got his name.
Awesome character. I read this book in less than 24 hours! Could not put it down.
It has all my favorite elements angels, demons, gods, vampires & various other supernatural characters.
It's extremely well written and the plot flowed so smoothly. I felt like part of the conversation as opposed to an outsider peeking in!
I cannot wait for Book # 3!!!
I enjoyed the first book and went straight to the second. I look forward to more books which I will certainly buy. The characters are intriguing and the plots well crafted. The world building is extremely complex and subtly presented; you learn about the world during the course of the story rather than through artificial conversations. The only thing letting it down is the proofreading has left some errors - words missing and some words mis-corrected by spell check to leave an incorrect word. These errors are not many and do not detract from the enjoyment of the story; it's a bit like enjoying a beautifully cooked omelette and finding a bit of eggshell. Its still a good omelette but you really don't enjoy that crunch. Nonetheless this book is well worth reading, but do read the first book in the series before this one to better understand the characters and plot development.
